Robin Kroener's Photographic Journal: Queenstown
A Five Minute Chat Turned into a Friendship
We had many tastes of the legendary Kiwi hospitality on our holiday. In Queenstown, after a day of sightseeing on beautiful Milford Sound and on the recommendation of a local resident, we decided to have dinner at H.M.S. Britannia, a restaurant in the center of this southern resort area. Upon our arrival we were advised of a short, ten minute wait for our table. Another couple, also waiting, offered us the two empty chairs at their small cocktail table and we joined them in the wait for dinner. Cordial greetings were exchanged. Marg and Barry were visiting Queenstown for a friend's wedding and obviously aware that we were Americans (guess our accents gave us away (grin)) asked us about our trip. Within mere minutes the host invited Marg and Barry to their table. Without hesitation, Barry asked the host if the table would accommodate all four of us. We didn't want to impose on their evening, but they insisted we join them. The next couple hours were spent in conversation, laughter, and enjoying delicious food (I highly recommend the Crows Nest Chicken). When it came time to part company Barry gave us their phone number and asked us to get in touch with them when we return to New Zealand. The perfect finale to the day.
