About This Site: What Is This Anyway?
This web site is dedicated to New Zealand actor Kevin Smith. Most people will know him best from his portrayal of Ares, God of War, on Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Young Hercules. People who live in New Zealand will also know him as an extremely versatile actor who has appeared in many television programmes and a few feature films, a comedian, debater, improvisationalist (if that's even a word), and a musician who has performed with Say Yes To Apes (in the 1980s) and with 70s cover band The Wide Lapels.
I created this site to document his myriad of projects, for those who have appreciated his work. Sadly, as Kevin has moved on to the next phase of his soul's journey, this site has now become a tribute in his honor. I have expanded it to include a memorial section where people can post their tributes, stories, and remembrances - and also an area dedicated to New Zealand, "Kiwiphile Central."
This site would not have been possible without the hard work of many of Kevin's fans before me. I'd like to thank Lessa for her wonderful site, Lessa's Smithsonian Page, Lori Joyce's Actors Down Under: The Definitive Aussie/Kiwi Actors Listing, and Mary Sauers, for her magnificent Simply Smith site. Also, many thanks to Zepgirl, who, for a few years, ran the Official Kevin Smith Fan Club. The club newsletters contain a great wealth of information. These four sources provided me with the starting point for Kev's projects -- TV shows, films, convention appearances, etc. I would not have even known about most of this stuff otherwise.
For information about the Xena and Hercules episodes, The Australian Xena Information Page (AXIP) and Whoosh! are invaluable.
I'm also very grateful to the folks who did the often thankless task of generating screen captures from these programmes and films, which were very welcomed, when I was not able to locate any official photos for a particular project. This includes Mary Sauers and her Bards Band Homepage, JinXavier's Ares God Of War Webpage, Sura's Kevin Smith Page, Tom Simpson's Xena Page, Andulasia's Kevin Sorbo/Kevin Smith Retreat, Ceallach's and M. Pappas' screen shots, which were on Lessa's page, Kiari's Kevin Smith Corner, Kimberly's The Incredible Kevin Tod Smith site, Amoreena's Kevin Smith Page, J. Mair (on the Australian Xena Information Page, and HBKid's The Legendary Hero's World Order. Big "thank you's" also to those who have taken photos of Kevin at the Xena/Hercules Creation, WarriorCon, and Panathenaea conventions: Mary Sauers, Toireasa, Maigrey, CJ, and Caroline Wheeler; Sura, Aeria (on Sura's site), Linley Kearne (on Lessa's site), Kiari, and WarGoddess.
Many thanks also to the official TV/Film/Theatre sites that I have utilized for information and graphics:
- Official Channeling Baby site
- Official Jubilee site
- StudiosUSA - Hercules
- StudiosUSA - Xena
- South Pacific Pictures - Lawless
- Official Theatresports site
Special thanks to Sandy Hall and Robin Kroener for their great photos of New Zealand that I have added to "Kiwiphile Central."
And last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to Kevin himself, for inspiring me to put this together.
I hope everyone enjoys the site...
Best Wishes,
Julie Stoller
~ Note About The Music Used For The Flash Tribute ~
The song used for the Flash tribute on this site is "All Fools Day" by The Saints. To learn more about this terrific band, see The Saints Directory. Lyrics for the song can be found here (bottom of page). Some of you might know that this is one of Kevin's favorite songs.
